Refunds will be issued with 5 working days or more notice before your course date. Your course fee minus a $40.00 administration charge will be returned to you in this event. Refund requests must be made through the CMTP Office. If we cannot provide or must cancel your course, a full refund will be provided.
EQUIPMENT
Students MUST provide their own protective riding equipment and have it available for ALL parking lot sessions. Anyone not properly equipped will not be permitted to participate in the course and no refund will be issued. Your required equipment includes an approved (DOT, ECE, SNELL) motorcycle helmet, eye protection, leather gloves, heavy denim or leather jacket, pants in good condition and leather boots with ankle protection and low heels (no sports or running shoes). Gearing-Up students are encouraged to bring their protective equipment to the first evening class (theory class) should there be any question of equipment acceptability.
MOTORCYCLES
The CMTP provides motorcycles and gas for the Gearing-Up course
LICENSING
If you wish to obtain a level 2 (M2) licence through the Gearing-Up course, you must obtain a level 1 (M1) licence prior to the course theory class with validity until after you have successfully completed your riding test at the end of the course. The level 1 licence is valid for 90 days. To obtain the level 1 licence:
-
Go to your closest Ministry of Transport Ontario (MTO) Driver Examination Centre (DEC)
-
Bring Personal Identification and Required Payment for a 90 Day M1 Licence and Knowledge Test
-
Apply for and obtain an Ontario Driver’s Licence M1. Inform the MTO Officer that you are taking a motorcycle training course and do not wish to schedule a road test
-
You must bring your M1 License receipt (yellow copy from Driver Exam Centre) as proof to us on the first day of your Gearing-Up Course (theory class)
Note: Motorcycle riders who successfully complete an approved motorcycle safety course that includes a road test with an M1 Licence are exempt from taking the ministry's M1 Exit road test and can move to an M2 Licence 60 days after obtaining the M1 Licence. If you complete an approved safety course, you can reduce the time that you must hold an M2 Licence from 22 to 18 months. While the motorcycle safety course certificate is valid for two years from its issue date, it may only be used for the M1 road test exemption within six months of its issue date.
PREPARATION
The Gearing-Up Getting Into Gear booklet will be mailed to you prior to the theory class. You MUST read the manual and complete the included Tests before coming to the theory class
